FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a security compliance checklist and why does it matter?

A security compliance checklist is a structured assessment of your application and infrastructure security controls mapped against industry frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and NIST. It matters because it identifies gaps in your security posture before they become breaches or audit failures. Regular assessments help organizations prioritize remediation, allocate security budgets effectively, and demonstrate due diligence to customers, partners, and regulators.

How often should we run a security compliance assessment?

Best practice is to run a comprehensive security compliance assessment at least quarterly, with continuous monitoring in between. Major reassessments should also occur after significant infrastructure changes, new application deployments, mergers or acquisitions, or changes in regulatory requirements. Organizations pursuing SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 certification should assess continuously as these frameworks require evidence of sustained compliance over time, not just point-in-time checks.

What is the difference between SOC 2 Type I and SOC 2 Type II?

SOC 2 Type I evaluates whether your security controls are properly designed at a specific point in time. SOC 2 Type II goes further by evaluating whether those controls operate effectively over a period of time, typically 6 to 12 months. Type II is considered more rigorous and is what most enterprise customers require because it demonstrates sustained security practices rather than a one-time snapshot. Organizations typically start with Type I and progress to Type II.

What is DevSecOps and how does it improve security compliance?

DevSecOps integrates security practices into every phase of the software development lifecycle rather than treating security as a separate gate at the end. It includes automated security scanning in CI/CD pipelines (SAST, DAST, SCA), secrets detection, infrastructure-as-code security policies, and automated compliance checks. DevSecOps improves compliance by catching vulnerabilities earlier when they are cheaper to fix, maintaining continuous evidence of security controls, and reducing the manual effort required for audits and certifications.
