What is loan origination software?
Loan origination software runs everything before a loan is disbursed: capturing the lead and application, verifying identity, pulling credit bureau reports, scoring and underwriting, sanction, the Key Facts Statement, signing and disbursal. It hands the approved loan to the loan management system, which services it until closure. In India it must also follow RBI’s KYC and lending rules.
Where ERPStack is today
ERPStack Lending is planned and in development. Nothing on this page is available to use yet, and no part of it has been reviewed or approved by the Reserve Bank.
Sign upWhat are the steps in loan origination?
The order below is the common one; digital lenders compress several steps into one screen, but each still has to happen and leave a record.
| Step | What the software does | Records it must keep |
|---|---|---|
| Lead | Capture source, product interest and consent to be contacted | Lead source, channel, consent |
| Application | Collect applicant, income and loan details; list required documents; acknowledge receipt | Application and acknowledgement |
| KYC | Verify identity and address by document, CKYC search and download, or Video-KYC | KYC record, CKYC identifier, V-CIP recording |
| Bureau pull | Fetch credit reports with the applicant’s consent and read existing obligations | Report, score, consent |
| Underwriting | Apply the scorecard and credit policy, assess income and repayment capacity, route exceptions | Decision, reasons, approver |
| Sanction | Fix amount, rate, tenor and charges; issue the sanction letter | Sanction letter, terms |
| KFS | Generate the Key Facts Statement with APR and repayment schedule; get acknowledgement | KFS with proposal number, acknowledgement |
| E-sign and e-stamp | Execute the agreement digitally and apply stamp duty under the relevant state law | Signed agreement, stamp record |
| Disbursal | Pay into the borrower’s bank account and hand the loan to loan management | Disbursal entry, handover |
In India, the application step comes with Fair Practices Code duties, such as acknowledging every application, and the KFS step has precise rules: for NBFCs it applies to retail and MSME term loans sanctioned from 1 October 2024, carries a unique proposal number and stays valid for at least three working days for loans of seven days or more (Responsible Business Conduct Directions).
What should you look for in loan origination software?
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Configurable products and policies | Credit rules change; they should be settings, not code changes |
| Full audit trail | Regulators and auditors ask who decided what, when and on what data |
| Assisted and self-serve journeys | Branch staff and borrowers on mobile should run the same workflow |
| KYC options | Document KYC, CKYC and Video-KYC each fit different customers |
| Consent capture | Bureau pulls, Account Aggregator data and marketing each need their own recorded consent |
| KFS and APR from the same terms | The KFS must match the sanction exactly, so both should come from one record |
| Clean handover | Sanctioned terms should flow into loan management and accounting without re-typing |
| Data export and hosting | You should be able to take your data out and know where it is stored |
Test with a real file: take a recent loan, run it through a demo from lead to KFS, and compare the APR and schedule with what you issued.
Which Indian rules shape loan origination?
KYC
For NBFCs, KYC now follows the Know Your Customer Directions, 2025, which replaced the earlier KYC instructions (NBFC KYC Directions). Two points matter most for software: KYC records must be uploaded to the Central KYC Records Registry within 10 days of starting an account-based relationship, and Video-KYC (V-CIP) is allowed as a live, consent-based audio-visual process run by an authorised official.
Account Aggregator data
Under the Account Aggregator framework, no financial information is retrieved, shared or transferred without the customer’s explicit consent, and the aggregator itself cannot support transactions (NBFC-AA Directions). Origination software should record each consent and the data received against it.
Digital lending
Where the loan is originated digitally, disbursal goes only to the borrower’s own bank account, a cooling-off period of at least one day applies, and the signed KFS and terms are sent automatically to the borrower’s verified email or SMS (Credit Facilities Directions, Ch. III). From 1 July 2026, lenders also report the borrower’s CKYC number to the credit bureaus where they have it (CIR Amendment Directions).
Personal data
The Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 were notified in November 2025, with an 18-month phase-in (PIB). Origination is where most borrower data is collected, so consent records and data retention belong in the origination design.
What is ERPStack Lending planning for origination?
ERPStack is an ERP for Indian small and mid-sized businesses that Perimattic is building. ERPStack Lending is a planned app line for lenders, and origination is one part of it. The plan:
- Configurable application journeys for branch staff and borrowers.
- KYC records with CKYC identifiers, and consent logs for bureau and Account Aggregator data.
- Rule-based underwriting with recorded decisions and approvers.
- Sanction letter and KFS generated from the same loan terms.
- Handover of sanctioned loans to ERPStack loan management and accounting.
Status: ERPStack Lending is planned and in development; none of this is available to use yet, and it carries no RBI approval or certification. Sign up to tell us how you originate loans today.

More on lending software
Loan origination, answered
What is the difference between loan origination and loan management software?
Origination covers the loan up to disbursal: application, verification, underwriting, sanction and documentation. Loan management takes over from disbursal: schedules, EMIs, interest accrual, collections, asset classification and closure. Some products do both; if they are separate, the handover of the sanctioned terms and KFS has to be automatic, not re-keyed.
Can an Indian lender onboard a borrower by video?
Yes. RBI’s KYC Directions for NBFCs allow a Video based Customer Identification Process (V-CIP): a live, secure, consent-based audio-visual interaction in which an authorised official identifies the customer with facial recognition and completes customer due diligence. The Directions set conditions on how V-CIP is run and recorded.
How does the Account Aggregator framework help loan origination?
An Account Aggregator retrieves a borrower’s financial information, such as bank statements, from the institutions that hold it and shares it with a lender only on the borrower’s explicit consent. For underwriting, that replaces uploaded PDFs with data the borrower has authorised and the lender can rely on.
