Intellyx vs SCADA Systems

SCADA and Intellyx are not direct competitors — they operate at different layers of the manufacturing technology stack and serve fundamentally different purposes. SCADA is about controlling processes; Intellyx is about understanding and improving production performance. Many factories that use Intellyx also have SCADA systems — Intellyx reads data from SCADA historians and PLCs as inputs for its analytics and AI capabilities.

SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems are industrial control platforms that monitor and control physical processes in real time — managing valves, actuators, and process parameters with the reliability and safety certification required for critical infrastructure. Intellyx is a manufacturing intelligence and analytics platform that monitors, analyses, and reports on production performance using data from PLCs, sensors, and ERP systems, but does not control physical processes. SCADA is essential for process control; Intellyx adds AI analytics, quality inspection, and business-context reporting on top of existing PLC and SCADA infrastructure.

Head-to-Head Comparison

Process Control and Safety Interlocks

Intellyx

Not available — Intellyx is a monitoring and analytics layer only

SCADA

Core capability — manages actuators, valves, and safety interlocks in real time

Real-Time Process VisualizationTie

Intellyx

Production KPI dashboards, OEE, and equipment health in real time

SCADA

Highly detailed P&ID-based process visualisation with live sensor values

AI-Powered Analytics

Intellyx

Built-in AI for defect detection, predictive maintenance, and anomaly detection

SCADA

Traditional rule-based alarms; AI requires separate third-party platform

Business Context and ERP Integration

Intellyx

Integrates with ERP (SAP, Tally) to add production order and cost context

SCADA

Limited ERP integration; focused on process data, not business data

Discrete Manufacturing Suitability

Intellyx

Well-suited for discrete manufacturing (automotive, electronics, textile, pharma)

SCADA

Originally designed for continuous process; less natural fit for discrete manufacturing

Safety Certification

Intellyx

Not safety certified — not appropriate for SIL-rated safety functions

SCADA

Available with SIL certification for safety-critical applications

Mobile and WhatsApp Alerting

Intellyx

Native WhatsApp and mobile alert delivery with configurable escalation

SCADA

Typically requires additional middleware for mobile alert delivery

Bottom Line

Our Assessment

SCADA wins on process control, safety interlocks, and real-time P&ID visualization — these are capabilities that Intellyx does not provide and should not be expected to provide. Intellyx wins on AI analytics, quality intelligence, ERP integration, business-context reporting, and mobile-first alert delivery. The two systems are complementary: most chemical, food, and process manufacturers use both SCADA for control and Intellyx for business intelligence and AI analytics on top.

FAQs

Common Questions

Can Intellyx read data from our existing SCADA system?
Yes. Intellyx can integrate with SCADA systems as a data source using standard industrial protocols including OPC-UA, OPC-DA, Modbus TCP, and REST APIs where available. This allows Intellyx to use real-time process data from SCADA as inputs for its analytics, OEE calculations, and predictive maintenance models — without requiring any changes to the SCADA system itself. The SCADA system continues to perform its control and safety functions, and Intellyx uses the data it generates for business intelligence and AI analytics. This integration is the standard architecture for factories that already have SCADA and want to add AI capabilities and ERP-connected reporting on top.
We are considering SCADA for our new factory. Should we consider Intellyx instead?
If your new factory will involve process control — managing valves, controlling temperatures, running safety interlocks, or coordinating actuators in a continuous process — you need a SCADA or PLC-based control system. This is a different requirement from what Intellyx provides, and Intellyx is not a substitute for process control infrastructure. If your factory is discrete manufacturing (assembly, machining, packaging) where PLCs on individual machines handle their own control logic, you may not need a SCADA layer at all — Intellyx can read directly from PLCs for monitoring purposes. Perimattic can discuss the right technology architecture for your specific factory during an initial assessment.
