SAP B1 ↔ Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay — BNPL Settlement Automation

The SAP Business One ↔ BNPL connector by ERPPlugs unifies Affirm, Klarna, and Afterpay under one settlement-reconciliation flow. Each captured payment posts as a receivable against the BNPL provider (not the customer), the provider's next settlement reconciles line-by-line against outstanding receivables, provider fees + interchange split to distinct GL accounts, and dispute + chargeback events post reversal entries automatically. One connector replaces three provider CSVs.

One connector for Affirm + Klarna + Afterpay — payments post as receivables against the provider, settlements reconcile line-by-line, fees split to distinct GLs.

Overview

What this connector does

BNPL is now 5-9% of US ecommerce checkout share and merchants typically run at least two providers (Affirm for large-basket, Klarna for mid-basket, Afterpay for younger-demo). The accounting gets ugly fast — each provider settles on its own cadence (Affirm 2-3 days, Klarna 2 weeks, Afterpay ~2 weeks), each charges its own fee structure (Affirm 2-8%, Klarna 3-5%, Afterpay ~6%), each has its own dispute + chargeback flow. SAP Business One customers typically handle this by downloading three provider CSVs monthly and hand-reconciling — 10-20 hours per month lost to it.

The ERPPlugs SAP B1 ↔ BNPL connector unifies all three providers under a single settlement-reconciliation flow. When a customer chooses BNPL at checkout and the provider captures the payment, the connector posts a receivable in SAP B1 against the provider's Business Partner (not the customer's — the customer's obligation is now to the BNPL provider, not you). When the provider's settlement cycle runs (Affirm daily, Klarna bi-weekly, Afterpay weekly), the connector reconciles each settlement line against outstanding receivables from that provider, posts the settlement as an Incoming Payment, splits provider fees + interchange to distinct GL accounts, and clears the receivable.

Dispute and chargeback handling stays in step. When a customer disputes a charge through the BNPL provider, the connector receives the webhook and posts a Journal Entry reversing the receivable against a Disputes Suspense GL. If the dispute resolves in your favour, the connector reverses the suspense entry. If the merchant loses, the connector posts the loss to Bad Debt. Every event carries the provider + order + settlement reference for full audit traceability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Under BNPL, when a customer checks out with Affirm/Klarna/Afterpay, the provider immediately assumes the payment obligation — the customer's debt is now to the provider, not to you. Accounting for BNPL as a customer receivable would be wrong; it would show the customer owing you money they no longer owe. The ERPPlugs connector correctly posts the receivable against the BNPL provider's Business Partner, so your AR aging shows what each provider owes you and when.

BNPL chargebacks come in two flavours — buyer-side disputes (customer says "I didn't receive it") and provider-side reversals (Klarna says the customer failed to pay). When either fires as a webhook, the ERPPlugs connector posts a Journal Entry reversing the original receivable against a Disputes Suspense GL. If the dispute resolves in your favour (buyer withdraws, provider decides in your favour), the connector reverses the suspense entry. If you lose, the connector moves the balance to Bad Debt. All three states are auditable end-to-end.

Yes. Because fees + interchange for each provider post to distinct GL accounts, SAP B1 standard reports can compute contribution margin per BNPL provider — revenue from Affirm-attributed orders minus Affirm-specific fees minus attributable disputes/chargebacks. This is how you decide whether Klarna's 4% fee is worth it vs Affirm's 3%, backed by real P&L data rather than gut.

It works with any subset. Enable only Affirm, only Klarna, only Afterpay, or any combination. Each provider is a separate authorisation + GL mapping; you can add providers over time without changing the existing setup.

When you initiate a refund in Shopify or your storefront, the refund is issued via the BNPL provider back to the customer. The ERPPlugs connector receives the refund webhook, posts a Credit Memo in SAP B1 reversing the original invoice, and reduces the provider receivable by the refund amount. Provider fees on the refunded portion are also reversed (most providers refund the fee, some charge a non-refundable transaction fee — the connector honours whichever policy applies per provider).
